Tuition Assistance

Considering a Catholic school education for your child, but concerned about financial cost? The Archdiocese of Detroit offers several options to assist Catholic families in meeting tuition needs. Through the Archdiocesan Endowment Foundation Tuition Assistance Program, each qualifying elementary student (Grades 1-8) can receive $600 per academic year; qualifying students in Grades 9-12 can receive $700 per year.

Information and applications (in both English and Spanish) for the academic year 2007-2008 are now available for download by clicking on the Tuition Assistance link on the Catholic Schools Page at www.aodonline.org . Hard copies of the application are available by calling 313-237-5775. Applications for this scholarship are due no later than April 3.

In addition, many Catholic elementary and secondary schools offer financial aid through their own tuition endowment and trust programs. Ask your Catholic school administrator about these possibilities for your child as well. Parents are encouraged to get started early on the financial aid process. For more information, contact Tamra Hull at 313-237-6530 or hull.tamra@aod.org .

EMPTY BOWL EVENT

Mid City Nutrition Fund-raiser

Our Lady of Guadalupe Hispanic Mission
3110 Goulden St., Port Huron
Date: March 22, 2007
Time: 4:30p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

The goal of the "Empty Bowl" is to raise money and awareness for the hunger that exists in our community and around the world. An "Empty Bowl" meal of homemade soup and bread will be served on Thursday, March 22, 2007 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Hispanic Mission.

Local potters and area residents have donated their time and talent to create hundreds of unique soup bowls for this event. Each guest will have an opportunity to choose a bowl to take home as a reminder of the hunger in our community.

A $25 donation is requested in exchange for the meal and bowl. All proceeds from the Empty Bowl Event will be donated to The Mid City Nutrition Program and their Soup Kitchen. In 2206, soup kitchen volunteers served 53,877 meals to the homeless and hungry in our community. As the number of families without employment rises, so does the need for food at the Soup Kitchen. To purchase tickets, call Joan Nelson at 810-989-2502.

A Silent Auction will be held in conjunction with the Empty Bowl meal. If you have an item or service you would like to donate to the auction please contact: Lisa Kolan at 810-966-7878. If you have any questions about the event, call Terry Krueger at 810-987-2232.
